Two of the many things Steve Jobs was known for were;
- Launch events must go perfectly to schedule.
- Using math to precisely prove a point; sometimes beyond common sense.
Have you ever noticed that all iPhone marketing - the iPhone time is 9:41 AM? Not 9:39 AM or 9:50 AM - but always 9:41 AM.
This is not a coincidence; but by design. As Steve Jobs planned out all launch events with such precision the big reveal would occur at a specific time.
But exactly why 09:41 was explained by Scott Forstall - former iOS chief.
We design the keynotes so that the big reveal of the product happens around 40 minutes into the presentation. When the big image of the product appears on screen, we want the time shown to be close to the actual time on the audience's watches. But we know we won't hit 40 minutes exactly.
To allow for the give or take they added one minute. As all presentations at this time had started at 9:00 AM, they added 40 minutes and then added the compensation minute.
You can see this fixed time repeated in the majority of Apple created product artwork. You will often see the same time on OS X marketing as well.
This specific percentage was provide by Steve Jobs when he questioned the reliability of the paternity test.
The test concluded the "probability of paternity for Jobs, Steven... is 94.1%". Steve Jobs response was typical of his assertion that he was not the father of Lisa.
28% of the male population of the United States could be the father.
Lisa Brennan-Jobs (born Lisa Brennan) and Steve Jobs later went on to reconcile with Lisa; showing genuine remorse for his denial of her paternity prior to her being nine years old.
Even for the specific and calculated nature of Steve Jobs 9:41 AM & 94.1% would be a stretch too far - hopefully.
